10월 5일 오전 10시, 렉싱턴 커뮤니티 센터(Lexington Community Center)에서 2026년 KOLex 가을 정기 모임을 가졌습니다. 기존 멤버분들 뿐만 아니라 새로운 멤버분들도 참여해 주셔서 자리를 빛내 주셨습니다. 이번 모임에서는 다음 사항이 논의되었습니다.

현 임원진 (회장, 부회장, 회계/총무)의 3년 임기가 만료됨에 따라 새로운 임원진을 선출하는 과정에 있습니다.

On the evening of May 5th, KOLex partnered with the Cary Memorial Library to host the “Timeless Korean Specialities: Red Ginseng & the Aesthetics of Bojagi Wrapping.” It was a truly meaningful time as we introduced Korea’s precious traditions to our local neighbors.
The event consisted of two main parts. First, we had a session for participants to learn about Korean Ginseng and Red Ginseng. The participants learned how Red Ginseng is made and why it has been so widely loved in Korea for many years. Participants watched a demonstration of slicing Red Ginseng roots and enjoyed warm Red Ginseng tea together.
Next, there was a hands-on workshop for Bojagi, the traditional Korean art of wrapping. Participants learned how to tie various beautiful knots using Bojagi fabric. It was wonderful to see the attendees enthusiastically following along and tying the knots themselves. Everyone was fascinated by how a plain piece of cloth could transform into beautiful packaging.
It was great to see so many people from our community show such an interest in Korean culture. Thank you to Ms Boeun Kim for the great lesson, and to our KOLex members for participating.
지난 5월 5일 저녁, KOLex는 Cary Memorial Library와 협력하여 한국의 전통을 소개하는 “Timeless Korean Specialties: Red Ginseng & the Aesthetics of Bojagi Wrapping.” 행사를 개최했습니다. 우리 지역 사회 이웃들에게 한국의 소중한 전통을 직접 소개할 수 있었던 정말 뜻깊은 시간이었습니다.
행사는 크게 두 부분으로 이루어졌는데 먼저 한국의 인삼과 홍삼에 대해 배우는 시간을 가졌습니다. 홍삼이 만들어지는 과정과 한국에서 오랜 시간 건강을 위해 사랑받아 온 이유를 알 수 있었습니다. 직접 홍삼 뿌리를 자르는 모습을 보면서, 다 함께 따뜻한 홍삼차를 마셔 보기도 했습니다.
이어 한국의 전통 포장 예술인 보자기 체험이 진행되었습니다. 보자기 천을 사용해 다양한 방식으로 예쁘게 매듭을 짓는 법을 배웠습니다. 참석하신 분들이 직접 손으로 매듭을 따라 하며 즐겁게 참여하시는 모습이 인상적이었습니다. 평범한 천이 아름다운 포장으로 변하는 모습에 다들 큰 관심을 보이셨습니다.
우리 지역의 많은 분들이 한국 문화에 관심을 가지고 참여해 주셨습니다. 유익한 강의를 해주신 김보은 님과 함께해 주신 KOLex 회원분들에게 감사드립니다.
In observance of Patriots’ Day, KOLex once again joined Lexington’s historic parade. Patriots’ Day is the town’s most significant celebration, commemorating the American Revolutionary War and honoring those who were and are in civic duty along with the values of liberty and courage.
Alongside various bands, civic groups, and cultural organizations, KOLex members and student participants marched to energetic K-pop music, bringing a lively spirit to the spectators. The presence of participants dressed in elegant Hanbok added a beautiful touch of Korean tradition to the procession, drawing warm applause from the crowds lining the streets.
This event was a meaningful opportunity to bridge Lexington’s deep history with the modern vibrancy of Korean culture while strengthening our bond with the local community.
올해에도 패트리어트 데이를 맞아 KOLex는 렉싱턴의 역사적인 거리 행진에 다시 한번 참여했습니다. 패트리어트 데이는 미국 독립 전쟁을 기념하고 자유 및 용기의 가치를 되새기는 렉싱턴의 가장 중요한 축제입니다.
여러 밴드, 시민 단체, 다양한 문화 단체들이 참여한 가운데,이번 퍼레이드에서 KOLex 회원들은 학생 참가자들과 함께 활기찬 K-POP 음악에 맞추어 행진하며 거리의 관중들에게 즐거운 에너지를 선사했습니다. 특히 한국의 미를 보여주는 단아한 한복을 입은 참가자들이 행렬에 의미를 더했으며, 모인 시민들은 박수로 화답하며 우리 커뮤니티를 반겨주었습니다.
이번 참여는 렉싱턴의 깊은 역사 속에 한국 문화의 현대적인 활기를 더하며 지역 사회와 더욱 가깝게 소통하는 뜻 깊은 시간이 되었습니다.
The 2026 KOLex Spring Annual Meeting was held on March 13th at 10:00 A.M. at the Lexington Community Center. Thanks to all the members who joined us despite their busy schedules, it was a truly meaningful time to establish our plans for the upcoming year.
The meeting began with a report on our 2025 finances, followed by a discussion on our upcoming plans for 2026 including, participating in the Patriots’ Day Parade, collaborating with the Cary Library for an event, and preparing for the K-Festival scheduled for this fall.
We sincerely thank all the members who shared their valuable opinion for the growth of KOLex. Your continued engagement strengthens the Korean community in Lexington. We look forward to seeing everyone at our future events!
3월 13일 오전 10시, 렉싱턴 커뮤니티 센터(Lexington Community Center)에서 2026년 KOLex 봄 정기 모임을 가졌습니다. 바쁘신 일정 중에도 귀한 시간 내어 참석해 주신 회원분들 덕분에 올 한 해의 계획을 세울 수 있었던 뜻 깊은 시간이었습니다.
이번 모임에서는 2025년 재정 보고를 시작으로, 다가오는 Patriots’ Day Parade 참여, Cary Library와 함께하는 행사, 그리고 올 가을 개최 예정인 K-Festival 준비 등 주요 활동에 대해 논의하였습니다.
KOLex의 발전을 위해 아낌없는 의견을 나누어 주신 모든 회원분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 여러분의 열정과 참여가 렉싱턴 한인 커뮤니티를 더욱 빛나게 합니다. 앞으로 예정된 행사들에서도 건강하고 활기찬 모습으로 뵙기를 기대합니다!
On Saturday, May 17, the town of Lexington paid tribute to Korean War veterans through a medal ceremony and a community breakfast. Held at 177 Bedford Street, the events reflected gratitude from the South Korean Government and heartfelt appreciation from Lexington Residents, especially from KOLex.
Honoring the Forgotten Heroes In collaboration with the South Korean Government, a formal medal ceremony was held to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of Korean War veterans. A total of 13 veterans and their families were honored. The Republic of Korea awarded six medals and a Korean Culinary set to living veterans, four to widows, and three to family members, offering rare recognition for a war often called “forgotten.”
Despite health challenges that prevented some veterans from attending, the ceremony was filled with emotion and remembrance. In preparation, volunteers from KOLex gathered on Friday, May 16, to make handwritten Korean thank-you cards and prepare flower bouquets, which were gifted to each veteran and family member by student KOLex volunteers.
On the day of the ceremony, students dressed respectfully and presented their gifts in person. Many took time to personally thank the veterans, engaging in conversation and expressing appreciation for their services. Their presence brought a meaningful, intergenerational connection to the ceremony.
Community Breakfast with a Purpose Before the ceremony, the Knights of Columbus, Lexington and Middlesex County Deputy Sheriff’s Association hosted an Armed Forces Breakfast from 9 AM to 11 AM. Many attended the breakfast and shared stories. The event also featured a moving moment when the Korean Consulate in Boston presented the Presidential Citation, symbolizing continued diplomatic respect and remembrance.
A lasting message
The lasting impact of this day will endure. Students, civic leaders, and veterans came together in a rare moment of unity—the cries, smiles, and kind gestures showed that gratitude transcends generations. Through words, small acts of service, cries, and smiles, Lexington showed a meaningful connection and proved that honoring the past is a responsibility carried forward by the present.
5월 17일 토요일, 매사추세츠 렉싱턴 (Lexington)에서는 한국전쟁 참전용사들을 기리는 훈장 수여식과 지역 아침 식사가 열렸습니다. 177 Bedford Street에서 진행된 이번 행사는 대한민국 정부의 감사와 함께 KOLex를 비롯한 렉싱턴 지역 주민들의 진심 어린 존경을 담아 마련되었습니다.
‘잊힌 전쟁’의 영웅들을 기리며 대한민국 정부와 협력하여 진행된 공식 훈장 수여식에서는 한국전쟁 참전용사들의 용기와 희생을 기렸습니다. 이번 행사에서는 총 13분의 참전용사와 가족들이 감사와 존경을 받았습니다. 대한민국 정부는 생존해 계신 참전용사 6분께 훈장과 한국 전통 식기 세트를 수여했으며, 미망인 4분과 가족 대표 3분께도 훈장을 전달했습니다. 이는 종종 ‘잊힌 전쟁 (Forgotten War)’ 이라 불리는 한국전쟁의 희생을 다시 한번 기리는 의미 있는 순간이었습니다.
건강상의 이유로 일부 참전용사들이 직접 참석하지 못했지만, 행사장은 깊은 감동과 추모의 분위기 속에서 진행되었습니다. 행사를 준비하기 위해 KOLex 자원봉사자분들은 5월 16일 금요일에 모여 손으로 직접 한국어 감사 카드를 작성하고, 꽃다발도 준비했습니다. 이 꽃과 카드는 학생 자원봉사자들이 각 참전용사와 가족들에게 직집 전달해 드렸습니다.
학생들은 단정한 복장으로 참석해 선물을 정중히 전달했으며, 많은 학생이 참전용사들과 대화를 나누며 감사의 마음을 전했습니다. 이러한 학생들의 참여는 세대를 넘어 기억과 존경을 이어가는 뜻깊은 장면이었습니다.
지역 사회가 함께한 아침 식사 훈장 수여식에 앞서 오전 9시부터 11시까지 Knights of Columbus Lexington과 Middlesex County Deputy Sheriff’s Association이 주최한 Armed Forces Breakfast가 열렸습니다. 많은 지역 주민과 참전용사분들이 함께 모여 이야기를 나누며 따뜻한 시간을 보냈습니다.
